KANCHANMALA GHOSH

KOLKATA 700 030

Ghosh is currently working with charcoal and acrylic white on a series of paintings expressive of moods of desolation, resignation, vacancy, and alienation: the exhaustion of being. Though primarily interested in the human figure and its details (facial expression; postures which reveal the internal life), her paintings also engage with the surrounding realm of the natural, which, in her opinion, can enhance or comment in other ways on the psychological.

In the recent past, Kanchanmala was largely influenced by the Impressionist School of Art and specialized in figurative and floral compositions. She experimented with the forms, textures and colours of flowers, using oil and acrylic. Currently she feels that monochrome better suits her subject matter.
